You have vinyl records for sale but you don't know their value or where to sell them?

Several choices are available to you, such as selling on the Internet, selling in specialized conventions or at flea markets or even in record stores near you. All these solutions have advantages and disadvantages.

For a sale
in a record store

The ideal solution when you want to quickly cash in your records.

For a sale on the Internet

You will have to perfectly inform the references of the record to be sold (original pressing or re-release, label, condition of the record and cover according to generally accepted criteria as defined by the Goldmine, photos, etc.). In short, an important work which is only worth it if your record is sought after because the sale is generally paying and the global fees including the site commission (like Ebay) and the means of payment (like Paypal) can reach 20% of the sale price. It is also necessary to define the shipping costs, depending on the weight and therefore the number of discs and obviously the country of destination and you will have to pack your disc correctly in an appropriate package to avoid any damage during transport. Then, after a compulsory passage through the post office - possibly with tracking or registered mail to avoid your disc getting lost along the way - and when your buyer has finally received his package and is satisfied with his purchase, you can expect a payment for the sale. It's a certain amount of work that is worthwhile if you have a rare pearl, sought after by many collectors, and the bids take off!

For a sale at a convention

You will first have to correctly evaluate the price of each of your discs and put them in appropriate crates for transport. On the day of the convention, get up early and get some exercise to bring your discs to the booth reserved for you and then you can start your sale. The price per linear meter of stand is usually at least 50€ depending on the convention and the conditions of the exhibition can vary from a gallery exposed to the cold to a duly heated party room! You must remain vigilant during your sale because thefts are frequent and it is sometimes unfortunate to see your most beautiful pieces disappear under your nose... The convention remains a good way to sell your records provided you have the required quality - visitors are generally enthusiasts or even collectors, they are mostly looking for rare pieces or records that they can themselves resell with a capital gain.

For a sale at a flea market

It is better to have discs of a medium or even low value because visitors want to get a good deal or not pay too much for what they are going to buy. Discs around 5-10€ will do but you will have 9 out of 10 buyers who will tell you that "the price of discs at a flea market is 1-2 euros" and you will quickly get a headache. But hey, it's a nice way to sell your records if you have the courage to get up early, or even very early, and you're ready to spend your day outdoors crossing your fingers so that our good Belgian weather stays blue.

For a sale in a record store

Ask around to find out which stores correctly evaluate the records at the time of purchase and can offer you an acceptable amount. It is clear that these stores have charges to bear and that in the best case, they won't be able to offer you more than 30% of the resale value and will probably not take back all the records you bring them. You can ask them to buy back the whole batch of discs but in these conditions, the average price per disc will be affected. This is a solution when you want to quickly get paid for your records and there are a few record stores in Brussels that I could advise you on without any problem.

Anyway, if you don't know which option to choose and you want an opinion or an evaluation of the discs you have for sale, don't hesitate to contact me.

I will be happy to help you by evaluating your collection at home and possibly offering you a purchase price that you can compare with the other options available to you. This is free of charge and does not commit you to anything!
